Hans Zimmer
The Wizarding World is preparing for its most significant sonic transformation in decades. HBO has officially announced that Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer, alongside the Emmy-winning collective Bleeding Fingers Music, will compose the original score for the highly anticipated Harry Potter television series.
Set to debut in 2027, the series promises a "faithful adaptation" of J.K. Rowling’s seven beloved novels, with each book being explored over the course of an entire season.
Anže Rozman
Kara Talve The Master Behind the MagicHans Zimmer, the legendary composer behind Dune, Interstellar, and The Lion King, will lead the musical direction. He is joined by Kara Talve and Anže Rozman of Bleeding Fingers Music, a collective known for its innovative approach to prestige television and documentaries like Planet Earth II.
In a joint statement, the team acknowledged the immense weight of stepping into a world previously defined by the iconic themes of John Williams:
"The musical legacy of Harry Potter is a touchpoint for composers everywhere, and we are humbled to join such a remarkable team. Magic is all around us, often just beyond reach... With this score, we hope to bring audiences that little bit closer to it while honoring what has come before."
Why This Matters
For fans, the music of Harry Potter is inseparable from the experience of Hogwarts. While John Williams created the foundational "Hedwig’s Theme," Zimmer’s involvement suggests a shift toward a more immersive, expansive, and perhaps atmospheric soundscape suited for the long-form storytelling of a multi-season TV show.
What We Know About the SeriesWhile the music is a massive piece of the puzzle, the series is already well into production. Here is a quick snapshot of the new era of Hogwarts:
The New Trio: The series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
A Veteran Cast: Supporting the young stars are heavy hitters including John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape), and Nick Frost (Rubeus Hagrid).
Creative Team: The show is helmed by showrunner Francesca Gardiner (Succession) and director Mark Mylod (The Menu).
Release Window: Expected to premiere in 2027 on HBO and stream globally on Max.
Revisit the JourneyAs the world waits for Zimmer’s new "Hogwarts sound," fans can currently revisit the original eight-film collection on HBO Max to hear the classic scores by John Williams, Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hooper, and Alexandre Desplat.
